Moto4 British Cup - Round 6 (Assen) Race Report

What an incredible weekend and what an amazing track to ride. Probably my favourite track on the calendar (Silverstone is a very close second).

Friday - FP1, I clicked straight away and loved it.

FP2 - Same again and pushed on to secure a decent finish.

Saturday - Straight in to qualifying. This was a tough one having never been there before but could see the bad weather coming in, my team gave me the instruction to push for the first couple of laps because the rain was coming. I got my head down and qualified just 0.069 off of my mate Jack, giving me 2nd on the grid. Super happy with this and first time in the winners enclosure.

Race one - we opted to play safe and went full wets so although I started P2, a couple of the riders were on a dry rear which clearly was the right choice but a huge risk and they took off. I made a mistake in to turn 1 then found myself well down the pack and battling with riders that I don’t usually battle with. Frustration got the better of me as I crossed the line and I am sorry for that, it’s all sorted and I have learned my lesson with that. Crossed the line in P7 and still valuable points on the board.

Sunday - No warm up and straight in to Race 2. Starting P8 and knew what I had to do, get myself to the front group asap. I managed this, got off to a great start and pushed on. I unfortunately dropped to P7 after contact with another rider that continuously rides aggressively but it worked in my favour this time, and I held on to the front runners. After some battles with my team mate, I got my head down, knew where I was stronger and pushed to the front, crossed the line in P2 on the 2nd last lap but unfortunately it started to rain on the last lap and was declared a red flag ending the race in the position that I crossed the line on the last lap flag which was P5. Pretty gutted about this to be honest as I was just setting up a push to the front in the last couple of corners. But hey, that’s just racing and we move on.

Donnington next week and I seriously cannot wait for this. All I want is a podium before the end of the season, let’s see if I can do it there.
