Round 7 of the British Minibikes took us to, Red Lodge Karting Circuit down in Suffolk:
Track Direction - Anti-Clockwise
Number of Turns - 11
It was a last minute decision to head to Red Lodge for this round.
It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been there and it’s never been one of my favourite tracks but I was up for the challenge of getting to grips with it and working on my laps times.
There was no pressure this weekend as it wasn’t a championship round for me and I was just grateful of the opportunity for some extra bike time on the Ohvale MiniGP 160.
Saturday
Format was Practice, Qualifying 1, Qualifying 2, Race 1
Qualifying ⏱️
Overall I qualified P1 out of 11 with lap time of 45.85
Red Lodge is a left hand track and quite technical. The surface was smooth and during qualifying I started to feel comfortable and was getting grips with it. As this wasn’t an FIM round we made the decision to switch from Pirelli tyres to some PMT scrubs to see how things went.
Race 1 - BMB 160/50
10 laps (Sprint Race)
Started P1 out of 11
Crossed the line P1, 9.99 seconds ahead of P2
Well done to my team mate Joshua Herring on P2 and Archie Hooper on P3
Best lap time 45.761
Race 1 - BMB 190/70
10 laps (Sprint Race)
Last minute decision to go out in this class on my 160 for some extra track time. Had to start at the back of the grid as I didn’t do qualifying. Made my way up to 2nd with 0.6 seconds to 1st place. A 5 second time penalty was given to 1st place for a jump start so that put me up to 1st
Well done to Thomas Matthew and Archie Hooper on P2 and P3
Sunday
Format was Warm Up, Race 2, Race 3
Race 2 - BMB 160/50
14 laps
Started P1 out of 11
Decided to tuck the front and then high side with just a few laps to go. Didn’t realise I was allowed to remount in this race so once I was made aware, I got back on and started chasing down the pack again. Made my way up to P2, unfortunately my team mate Joshua had bike issues and had to pull in so I ended up P1 although he fully deserved to win that one.
Finished P1, 6.38 seconds ahead of P2.
Well done to Archie Hooper and Olly O’Gorman on their 2nd and 3rd places
Best lap time 45.987
Race 2 - BMB 190/70
14 laps
Started P1 out of 10
Finished P1, 12.07 seconds ahead of P2.
Well done to Thomas Matthew and Archie Hooper on their 2nd and 3rd places
Best lap time 46.34
Race 3 - BMB 160/50
14 laps
Started P1 out of 11
Finished P1, 35 seconds ahead of P2
Gutted for my team mate Joshua Herring who had yet more bikes issues and had to pull in. Well done to Olly O’Gorman and Archie Hooper on their 2nd and 3rd place.
Best lap time 46.022
All further races were cancelled due to a rider incident. Get well soon to Isabelle Wingate after her collision on track. Glad she is now on the mend.
That is now the end of the season for the UK racing and next month I will be heading to Spain for a couple of days training ahead of the World Finals happening from 12th to 14th November. Stayed tuned for more news on that front.
