Race Report - Scottish Championship & Melville MCC

Saturday

Format was Practice, Qualifying, Race 1, Race 2

Qualifying

Had a good qualifying session with a couple of clear laps.

Qualified P7 out of 11 (P6 out of 10 in the Junior Twins 300 class) with lap time of 1:10.961

P1 in restricted class.

All races this weekend go from qualifying time (no progressive grids)

Race 1

10 laps

Rubbish start, 2nd to last off the line. Passed 5 people going into railway corner. Had a great battle with Innes and Archie O’Donnell throughout the whole race.

Crossed the line in P5 out of 10 in the Junior Twins (300) class and P1 in restricted class

Best lap time 1:10.394

Race 2

Due to running behind schedule this was postponed until Sunday

Sunday

Format was Practice, Race 1, Race 2

I decided not to go out in practice as the rain came on. I have the final of the FIM MiniGP 160 UK Series in a couple of weeks so need to be sensible as winning that is my main focus this year.

Race 2 - Postponed from Saturday

10 laps

There was a bit of rain earlier and although the track was drying up we decided to stick with wets. Probably the wrong decision as the back tyre got wrecked!

Anyway, another rubbish start. I was having issues with the gearshifter and I kept hitting false neutral.

I had a good battle with Archie the whole way. A few of the Junior Post Classics got between us and Archie pulled a gap. I worked hard to gain it back and managed to pass back on the penultimate lap.

Crossed the line in P6 out of 10 in the Junior Twins (300) class and P1 in restricted class

Best lap time 1:11.25

Race 1

10 laps

Dad welded the gearshifter on the bike,  changed my front disc and put slicks back on so I was good to go.

I got a great start this time and was having a good battle with Liam Keirnan but there was a Red Flag on the 4th lap. My friend Ritchie had a fast off at the chicane but thankfully he was ok.

The race was restarted for the remaining 6 laps. I progressed well again but couldn’t quite catch Harley and Liam.

Crossed the line in P4 out of 9 in the Junior Twins (300) class and P1 in restricted

Got my PB of 1:09.8 (restricted lap record - I think)

Race 2

10 laps

I got another good start and was battling with Innes for most of the race. I was managing to pass on the corners but he kept getting me back on the straights. I had a moment on the penultimate lap coming out of the chicane and almost lost the back. Luckily I managed to save it but it was too late to make up the gap.

Crossed the line in P6 out of 10 in Junior Twins (300) class and P1 in restricted

Best lap time 1:10.268

Another great, well organised weekend at East Fortune run by Melville Motor Club. Also thanks to all the Marshalls, who, without them, we couldn’t race.
